About Us

Angela Smith and Scott Shakir started CharACTer Curtain Calls so that students in the area have the opportunity to be exposed to the excitement of live theatre. During CharACTer Curtain Calls’ first season in 2015-16, a successful Aladdin Jr. was staged. Willy Wonka JR was staged in their 2nd season (2016-17), with Jungle Book KIDS and High School Musical JR taking to the stage in 2017-18.  For the 2018-19 season, Prince and the Penguin, Alice in Wonderland JR. and Curtains young@part were performed.  Why Remember?, Remembrance Day themed play was also highlighted in November, 2019. Off Their Rockers was staged by our primary group in the 2019-20 season, but due to the arrival of COVID-19, our junior and senior productions were halted one month away from being performed.

The 2021-22 productions included Twinderella and It’s a Bird, it’s a Plane, it’s Superman!

For the 2022-23 season, the Grades 1-3 actors performed The Emperor’s New Hair;  the Grades 4-6 group staged Annie JR; and the Grades 7+ program took on The Addams Family young@part.

The 2023-24 featured performances of Pirates Past Noon KIDS (Gr.1-3), Matilda JR (Gr. 4-7) and The Music Man JR (Gr. 8-10)

Angela Smith and Scott Shakir collaborated on a number of theatrical productions (Annie Jr., Aladdin Jr., Twinderella, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., and the Jungle Book for Kids) for children of elementary age while teaching at Sparta Public School.  CCCalls was fortunate to have Rosemary Charlton as a co-founding Board member and Musical Director for the first two seasons.  Angela is a teacher at Kettle Creek P.S. in Port Stanley, while Scott retired from a long teaching career at Sparta P.S. in June, 2015.  Scott stepped down from the Board in May, 2024, but will always remain a supporter of CCCalls.

Adele Lasson joined CharACTer Curtain Calls when she retired from a high school counselling/teaching career at Laurier S.S., in June 2017. She has stage experience (music and drama) from the University of Regina, Princess Avenue Playhouse, and the West Elgin Dramatic Society, where she also coached students in theatrical productions.

Joining the Board in 2018 was Carlie Tiller, an enthusiastic director who has been in a number of productions while attending school.  She is a powerful addition to the creative team at CCCalls!

Joining the Board in May, 2024 was Lauren Davey, a local teacher who volunteered tirelessly during the 2023-24 season.
